The dental department of the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH) and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan ( KGUMSB) jointly observed the ‘World Oral Health Day’ in the presence of Health Minister Dasho Dechen Wangmo on 20 March in Thimphu.
The theme for this year’s World Oral Health Day was ‘Be Proud of Your Mouth’ to spread awareness about oral hygiene and maintain your dental hygiene and make you proud of your mouth.
At the event, Dasho Dechen Wangmo said that our mouth is a gateway to our body, be it vitamins and minerals or germs and viruses. “Therefore, to keep our body healthy, one must take special care of oral hygiene,” she said.
Furthermore, realizing that oral health is extremely important during pregnancy, oral health service was introduced in the Reproductive Health Unit at JDWNRH which will be extended to other Reproductive Health Centers across the country.
Going forward, the oral health program in the ministry will focus on extensive awareness on oral health education and bring in behavior change, particularly in the rural communities for the improvement of oral health.
