After a fire razed the kitchen and dining hall of Tharpaling monastery in Bumthang on Thursday, monks and other staff living in the monastery are today using a temporary kitchen built by well wishers.
The staff and students of Technical Training Institute in Chumey, Bumthang had built temporary kitchen for the monks of the monastery. They have built the temporary structure in two days.
The Principal of the Shedra Lopen Tashi Dorji said the Bhutanese in general are very generous and kind. “We are thankful for the staff and students of TTI for constructing the temporary kitchen,” he thanked.
For few days people of Domkhar have sponsored meals for the monks. Neighbouring monasteries in Bumthang have also helped the monastery in cash and kind according to the Principal.
The Dzongkhag and gewogs officials have also helped the monastery during the disasters and provided ration for the monks.
A fire that broke out in the wee hours on Thursday morning razed the kitchen and dining hall of the monastery to the ground. Along with the structure the monastery also lost ration for a year and other kitchen utensils.
Tharpaling monastery is located about 40 kilometers from Bumthang town. It has several sacred temples and pilgrimage sites blessed by Guru Rinpoche and Kuenkhen Longchen Rabjam. There are about 150 monks and meditators living on the campus.
