Public transport service needs a boost

It’s high time now to improve the city bus service within the Thimphu city with maximum coverage from all peripheries. The places may be for inclusion as far as Hongtsho, Kabesa, Khasdrapchu and Jimina every day so that public could plan accordingly in order to facilitate their conveyance while one is working in any firm in different locations.

If it’s done properly then there will be no pressure in Thimphu as far as housing is concerned. As of today, the service exists but is not timely and sometimes there are no bus services due to technical problem. There should be certain arrangements made for replacements when buses break down due to technical glitches which are non-existent today. First of all, we must understand the importance of public transportation as it contributes to a healthier environment by improving air quality, reducing fossil fuel consumption and accelerates better land uses.

Moreover, it also helps to expand business development and work opportunities. By moving people more efficiently, public transit produces significantly less air pollution per passenger mile than a standard car carrying a single driver. Buses emit 20% less carbon monoxide, 10% as much hydrocarbons and 75% as much nitrogen oxides per passenger mile as an automobile with a single occupant.

Transport is important on the basis of socio-economic factors as well as the influence it has on relationships between different countries. Through the role of moving people and goods, transport enables tourism and travel by making it possible for people to go to the places they want to see.

Public transport provides a basic mobility service to these persons and to all others without access to a car as public transportation also helps to reduce road congestion and travel times and energy and oil consumption, all of which benefit both riders and non-riders alike. Few cars on the road mean a reduction in the possibility of these dangerous diseases. It will result in clean environment boost living standards and brings immense benefits to the economy.

Transportation is essential activity that provides access to services and activities, such as education, employment, shopping and social events. The quality of transport options available affects people’s ability to participate in social and economic activities.

Moreover public transportation provides many mobility, safety and economic benefits to the people and business, beyond those key benefits. It also offers significant environmental advantages that contribute to a better quality of life; apart from the above point transportation is very important for human being as it helps in providing nutrition,

Therefore, the relevant organizations like National Environment Commission and Gross National Happiness Commission will have to look at such probabilities seriously and grant financial support to the service providers through international agents like WHO & Climate change units from the UN bodies for better sustainability.
