Yoga reaches RENEW-Gawaling Happy Home

21 June is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga every year

Indian Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj and officials of the Embassy of India in Bhutan visited RENEW Gawaling Happy Home in Wangsisina to commemorate the celebrations of the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 9 June this week.

The commemorations this year is centered on the theme; ‘Yoga for Humanity’.

The Indian Ambassador was received at Gawaling by Tshering Dolkar, Executive Director of RENEW, who also supervises the operations of the Gawaling Happy Home.

The residents of the Happy Home undertook a yoga session led by KVSSN Murthy, Yoga Guru of the Cultural Centre of the Embassy, including a number of Yoga asanas and different poses of the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation).

Yoga Guru Shri Murthy also conducted a Yoga competition among the Happy Home residents and participants who demonstrated the best Yoga asanas were awarded the prizes.

The winner of the Yoga competition, Choden, in the Bhujanagaasana category, was awarded a cash prize of Nu 20,000 while Sangay Choden bagged the first runners-up with a cash reward of Nu 15,000. Zangden, the second runners-up, bagged a cash award of Nu 10,000.

21 June is celebrated as the IDY every year, following the passage of the UN General Assembly resolution which was adopted by acclamation in December 2014 with a record number of 177 member states, including Bhutan.
