Villagers of Chaskar under Chuzegang gewog, Sarpang are happy with the completion of the recent blacktopping of their gewog road.

People of Chuzegang and neighbouring gewogs can now travel to Gelephu town taking the new route. The road will enhance the livelihood of the villagers Chuzegang, Umling and Tareythang gewogs easing to sell their agricultural and livestock products.

The villagers are also happy as their sanitation has improved from the erstwhile dusty environment to clean one. For several months, before the blacktopping of the road, the dust emitted from the dirt road was a menace.

In addition, the dust hampered their crops and vegetables while food and clothes were laden with dirt, and people even had faced health issues, especially children.

A villager from Chaskar chiwog, Dawa Tamang, who runs a restaurant beside the Sershong-Tareythang road, said the lives of their residents, particularly those who live at roadside, have improved.

He said that villagers had to bear living in dust-infested environments, especially in the dry seasons from September-December. The pollution had affected their vegetables and fruits while clothes and houses were blanketed with dust.

Dawa Tamang said he could not serve clean foods and drinks to his customers for several months. “Some children were ill and were admitted in hospital,” he said.

Another resident Durga Prasad said that after completion of the road there has been significant improvement in the lives of the residents of these four gewogs.

The travel duration between Gelephu town and four gewogs has been reduced and the road from Sershong to Tareythang has also been substantially improved.

“The Gyalsung project widened the road and maintained a thicker and higher grade of material. We are thankful to His Majesty,” he said.

Former tshogpa of Chaskar chiwog, Rinchen Dorji, said that all the people of four gewogs, mostly people of Chaskar, are happy with the completion of blacktopping their gewog road.

Had there been no Gyalsung project, he said that people would have been using the old road which was burdensome.

The former tshogpa said that people can now commute comfortably to their nearest town. “It will save our time and money,” he said, adding it will also improve the socio-economy fabric of the locals.

A resident, Rakesh Dungana, shared that earlier people had difficulties while commuting on the old road. However, with the coming of the Gyalsung project, things have improved substantially.
