INTRODUCTION

Bhutan Times Limited (BTL) was established for publishing a 12 page national weekly appearing on Sundays published in English and Dzongkha as the first private newspaper in the country.

It was launched on 30th April 2006 and is distributed nationwide through a string of some 200 sales agents. Containing a blend of local and international news targets both serious and light readers, with main focus on rural development.

Bhutan Times limited has become a full-fledged public limited company with the promoters holding about 66% of the shares and the balance shares owned by general public. The share holding pattern comprises people from all walks of life including farmers, civil servants, corporate employees, and businessman and media professionals.

The actual formation and operation of the Bhutan Times Limited company was effective from “1st JANAURY 2007”.

The total paid up capital in Nu. 40 million and has about 288 share holders

OPERATIONAL LOCATION

The operational location of BTL is located Near the Call Centre, Changzamtog, Thimphu.

BTL has one correspondent offices in the country in Gelephu for the Central Bhutan correspondent; and intends to open the bureau office in Tashigang for Eastern Bhutan and Phuentsholing for Southern Bhutan. The corresponding office will cater to the needs of people of the regions.

RESOURCES

BTL has about 10 staff members, of this, 5 are professionals-Reporters, Sub-Editors, Accounts Personnel, Graphics designers and circulation staff.

The unit is broadly divided into five divisions and headed by leading professional in their own areas.
