The Chairman of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, has joined Gelephu Mindfulness City as a Founding Member.
With more than three decades of experience in building, financing and operating large-scale infrastructure across sectors including energy, ports, logistics and transportation, Mr Adani has led major investments in infrastructure and renewable energy, with operations and partnerships across multiple global markets. Mr Adani’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure resonates with Bhutan’s commitment to environmental stewardship and climate responsibility.
A Memorandum of Understanding for this partnership was signed between Druk Green Power Corporation Limited and Adani Power Limited at the Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong on 3 Jan , 2026
At the event, in the presence of His Majesty The King, Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Mr. Adani also jointly laid the foundation stone for the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydropower Project.

Conceived under the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Gelephu Mindfulness City reflects Bhutan’s enduring belief that true progress must harmonise economic development with ecological balance, cultural integrity, and human well-being. GMC is being shaped not merely as an urban project, but as a living expression of Bhutan’s long-term philosophy where growth is guided by wisdom, restraint, and responsibility to future generations.

In this context, Mr. Adani’s association with GMC reflects a shared alignment with Bhutan’s development ethos. Over several decades, he has led the creation of large-scale infrastructure across energy, logistics and connectivity, experience that complements GMC’s ambition to build future-ready systems without compromising natural and human capital. His leadership in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure resonates with Bhutan’s commitment to environmental stewardship and climate responsibility.

His Majesty the King has often emphasised that development must be purposeful and deeply rooted in values, observing that “the measure of success lies not in scale alone, but in whether progress preserves harmony between people, nature, and time.” Gelephu Mindfulness City embodies this principle by integrating sustainability, mindfulness, and long-term planning at its core.

Commenting on his role, Mr. Gautam Adani said “Bhutan has shown the world that development guided by values creates lasting strength. Gelephu Mindfulness City is a profound and timely vision, and I am honoured to support an initiative that places human well-being, nature, and long-term thinking at the heart of progress.”

The announcement also builds on the strong and growing partnership between Bhutan and the Adani Group, including the landmark collaboration with the Druk Green Power Corporation to jointly develop 5,000 MW of hydropower capacity thereby further reinforcing shared commitments to clean energy, regional resilience, and sustainable growth.

The GMC Authority welcomes Mr. Adani’s participation as it advances Gelephu Mindfulness City as a global model inspired by Bhutan’s philosophy, demonstrating how cities of the future can be built with humility, balance, and foresight.
