The application period for the Innovate for GMC program has now closed after a strong response from Bhutanese youth. This flagship program, designed to foster mindful innovations, will be officially launched on 7 October.
The selection team is now screening applications to identify candidates whose skills align with the program’s core objectives. Selected candidates will be notified on the morning of 24 September. A virtual pre-orientation session will follow at noon for all selected participants.
Participants who receive a tentative acceptance email with a login portal, which will be needed to complete their registration process by attending a virtual pre-orientation session at 12PM noon on 24 Sept, undertake a mandatory medical and drug screening between 25 and 29 September. The program team has arranged for all applicants to undergo screening in Thimphu or Gelephu.
After logging into the portal, candidates will be asked for their present addresses. Based on these addresses, candidates will be given specific dates and locations for their medical and drug screening. All tentatively selected candidates are automatically screened for security clearance. All selected participants who are employed must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer to finalize enrollment.
A total of 200 individuals will be placed on a standby list. If the initial 500 selected candidates fail to meet the mandatory requirements, standby candidates will be contacted to join the program.
The Innovate for GMC flagship program is a key initiative in the city’s strategy to promote sustainable development. It is an investment in Bhutan’s youth, providing them with the opportunity to create solutions that will contribute to the nation’s progress. By actively involving our youth and volunteers through various initiatives, the project is ensuring that Gelephu Mindfulness City is truly a project of the people, for the people
Tshering Gyaltshen Penjor, Chair of the team, and Secretary of the National Land Commission Secretariat, said: “The Innovate for GMC Challenge was a call for young Bhutanese to design mindful solutions to the world’s problems, and the response has been overwhelming. We received far more applications than we anticipated, which shows the passion and excitement of our youth to contribute to His Majesty’s vision for the Gelephu Mindfulness City. This is just the beginning. We will continue to host similar challenges, and we warmly invite all those who could not join this round to stay engaged and seize the next opportunity.”
