Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji receives Thai Royal Decoration

In recognition of Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji as the Honorary Consul-General (HCG) of the Kingdom of Thailand to Thimphu, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua of Thailand bestowed the ‘Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand (Third Class) on 19 March.

The honour was bestowed for his outstanding role in promoting and strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Kingdom of Thailand for 21 years.

The press release from the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka states that the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand was established by His Majesty King Chulalongkorn in 1869. Currently, it is conferred on Thai civil servants and foreign nationals with outstanding roles in promoting bilateral relations and cooperation.
Makawadee Sumitmor, Ambassador of Thailand to Bhutan visited Bhutan to attend the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Makawadee Sumitmor said that this recognition is bestowed for his good service and unwavering dedication to promoting friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

From nominations around the world, she said only two were subsequently conferred the honor.

“As the Ambassador of Thailand to Bhutan, I am deeply grateful. With this, a more interesting chapter will be added to this portfolio in his capacity,” Makawadee said.

She said Thailand and Bhutan have enjoyed close relations for more than three decades. “Our friendship and close ties have been in sharing our common values, mutual understanding, and facilitating bond at all levels.”

Besides having volunteers from Thailand in Bhutan, the Ambassador said Thailand has technical co-operation such as scholarship, developed one gewog one product (OGOP), and also participated in various developmental activities since 2009.”

They are now serving as ambassador of goodwill that form a network and friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji has dedicated himself to assisting the Royal Thai Government and helping Thai nationals residing in the Kingdom of Bhutan for more than 20 years.

He initially served as an Honorary Consul from 2003 to 2013 when he was promoted as the Honorary Consul-General.

Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji has provided outstanding support and facilitation in preparing visits to Bhutan of members of the Thai Royal Family such as the visits of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana in 2007 and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2016.

He also contributed to the success of numerous official visits till date which reflects his selfless commitment to the advancement of bilateral relations.

On receiving the honor, Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji said, “It is with great humility that I accept this recognition which will give me more energy and spirit to do much more than what I have been doing.”

In terms of economic cooperation, Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji has vast experiences from his business background and from holding important posts in business-related associations previously and currently, which enabled him to expand trade relations actively through his initiation and support for the exchanges of business and investment delegations.

Many Thai nationals, both living and traveling in Bhutan, have received wise guidance and insightful recommendations from him both in terms of economic issues and consular service. 

The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka and the Royal Thai HGC in Thimphu co-organized the Royal Decoration Presentation Ceremony.
